View north from top of custom house, Rockland, ca. 1875
Contributed by Rockland Historical SocietyDescription
This view was taken from the roof of the Custom House in Rockland, looking north toward Beech Hill in the distance. The Rockland Harbor is on the right, and Limerock Street is in the foreground.
Berry's Livery & Boarding Stable and a fish market line Limerock Street in the foreground. A horse drawn carriage is hitched in front of the fish market.
The large, brick building with a mansard roof in the center of the photograph is the Farwell Opera House, and the three-and-a-half-story brick building behind and to the left of the Opera House is the Lindsey House Hotel.
Beyond the Lindsey House are three church steeples: the Congregational Church on the left, the Baptist Church on the right, and the Second Baptist Church in the distant middle.
